Why I’ve been M.I.A

And why you should be too
For the last eight weeks I haven’t been posting anything. Were have I been? What’s been going on? I’ll tell you what has been going in my life that led to me being M.I.A. (missing in action) and why you should do this too.
Our new bundle of joy
Our new bundle of joy

So where have I been? My wife and I welcomed a new addition to our family! Say hello to Sophia Grace McElveen. We are now a family of four. My wife (Kalene), Leonard Joshua (LJ) and Sophia Grace. The jump from one child to having two is no joke. So the last eight  weeks we have been spending time together as a family and adjusting to having this beautiful princess in our lives.
It’s been great during this time in my life to have some time to disconnect from the world and focus on my family. Time is our most precious commodity and too many times we let the situation dictate to us how we spend our time rather than us being responsible and disciplined in how we use our time.
We should have moments when we disconnect from the world. No Facebook, Twitter, or other social media. Put our phones, tablets, and laptops away and enjoy the people and things around us.
Here are two benefits from unplugging and taking time away.
  1. Solitude is harder to find in a world that is so connected. These times of solitude allow us to be quiet, to reflect on what’s in our hearts. Times like this are important and we need them more and more.
  2. Life is happening right in front of you. Experiences are what join us together, they are what we remember when we tell our friends about a new restaurant, movie, or vacation. While it’s great to post the pictures of these events, we also need time to disconnect and just enjoy the experience.
We all may not have a schedule that permits us to totally disconnect from the things around us and go travel the world for six months, but we can start with five minutes today. Turn your phone off, walk away from your desk, go outside and have a quiet couple of minutes.
What’s holding you back from going M.I.A?

  1. Very powerful words of wisdom. I agree with you wholeheartedly. This is something I actually was talking about doing on yesterday. Maybe this was conformation for me. Thank you.
