Your Spouse & God Want The Same Thing

Have you been challenged this year? For most of us, I would think that we have been challenged. It has been an assault on our mental and spiritual. In these challenges, we can question God and wonder what does he want from us?

What Do They Want From Me?

Being quarantined with your spouse for the last 3-4 months we can have some of the same questions. The answer to both of these questions surprisingly is the same. What your spouse wants from you are the same things that God wants from us.

I believe that there are four qualities that as men, our wives, and God want to see from us. Here is a quick take on these four things. There will be upcoming posts that will dive more in-depth into each of these traits.

Taking Advantage of The Time

Great Opportunity is only as good as your preparation to take advantage of it.- Tom Black

In times of crises, your character really does speak louder than your words. Are you the type of person that is fighting in the stores, or someone who is trying to help his fellow neighbor? Now more than ever your actions tell on you.

Our attitudes determine a lot of how we view the world. It’s amazing how two people can see the same situation differently. Think of all the situations where you and your spouse see the same thing but differently.

Our attitudes determine our outlook Click To Tweet

How are you viewing this time of COVID-19? Going stir crazy? Are you frustrated with trying to work from home? There is a way that you can make the most out of this time.

  1. Set a Goal

Don’t think of this as some concrete, must be done type of thing. Instead, approach this as a motivation for your day. So whether it is work-related, reading a book, starting your side hustle, it doesn’t matter. You want to be able to set something out in front of you for your day.

Goals are great just as a daily motivation. Most of us are either working from home or we are on temporary leave from work. It helps to ensure that we’re not just laying around in our sweatpants watching Netflix all day.

  1. Encourage Yourself

There is something that can just happen to you when you spend all your time in one area. While there may be work to do or plenty of at home work projects, the fact of being contained can take its toll.

It can be easy to fall into a rut and feel like the world is crashing in on you. This is the feeling that you’re fighting against.

Encouraging yourself is mandatory during this time. If you’re like me, you took for granted the positive impact that being around other human beings has. Now they are longing for contact and connection with other human beings.

Without being able to have that person to person contact, there is a greater need for us to find ways to keep ourselves encouraged.

Have some extra prayer time, find some encouraging music. Laughter is also what will keep your spirit up. Whatever you need to keep yourself encouraged, this is the time to begin to surround yourself with that.

  1. Read, Read, Read

So many people do not read books. There are so many different genres out there. Try a couple of different books. Don’t feel bad if you start a book and don’t finish it, just move on to a different genre and see if you like that type. There are plenty of options out there’s enough  if you’re not able to make it to a library.

  • Audio-books – there are plenty of options outside of Audible. Most of them have a free trial period so try different ones and see what you like.
  • Library Access – you may not be able to physically go to a library, but many of them have electronic services that will  offer eBooks and movies etc.
  • YouTube – don’t binge random videos, try learning a new skill

Family is Important to God

Have you ever wondered why family is so important to God. From the beginning of the Bible, you can see that God wanted to be able to enjoy the benefits of family. Following God’s example, we should value it too.

The family unit is a part of our lives that we don’t regularly attend to. While we plan for a lot of things when it comes to our social life and our career life, when it comes to our family there can be a lack of planning.

In recent years there has been more of a push to have balance in life. People are recognizing the value of family. They don’t want to work 60 or 70 hours a week. There are too many stories out there of successful people who worked so hard, but in the process they lost their marriages, families, health or a combination of things.

We can plan everything in our lives, but still leave our family out Click To Tweet

Why work so hard to achieve a financial or career status and get there not have anyone to enjoy it with?  The family unit is important for 3 reasons.

  1. The foundation

Our families are foundational to our lives. When everything can seem like it is going out of control, your family can serve as an anchor in the storm. Christians are often referred to as the Body of Christ. Showing that we are all connected.

  1. Support & Celebrate

We know how valuable a support group can be. When we need support to get through a difficult situation our family members tend to be the ones to pick us up. The same can be said of when we celebrate significant moments in our life. Think of the milestone birthdays, the promotions, the bonuses, marriages, children being born and all the things that are important to us. Who are the people that are most likely to be there and celebrate with us? Family.

  1. God at the Center

When it comes to organizing and evaluating our lives, it makes it easy to compartmentalize everything. We can treat our lives like rooms in a house. One room is our career.  A room for our family. The basement is where all the things we don’t want to deal with go. There’s a room for our emotions and there is a room for God.

What we have failed to realize is that God is in every room. He is the foundation that our house is built on. God doesn’t want to be regulated to just one room. He wants to be involved in every area of life.
