Avoid Divorce

Marriage Works

Divorce seems to be everywhere. The latest Hollywood couple that has fallen victim are Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan . It’s too bad because they seemed like an awesome couple. I am a fan of some of their movies. There are so many couples that seem to be getting divorced. With the divorce rate as high as it is America we all have been impacted and know someone who has been through a divorce. We have to do what we can to protect our marriages.

Marriage Works

The Hollywood Model

The Hollywood model for relationships seems to be the norm today. It’s amazing if a couple can make it 10 years together. These types of relationships should be the outliers and not the model for what we think marriage and relationships should be.

I was talking to someone recently that  watches RHOA, I believe, and they were so wrapped up in the people on the show that they felt like they knew them personally. Just by talking to them you could tell that they were invested in these people. Even though they knew that there wasn’t much “reality” in “reality tv,” they were a part of it. They felt like the people on the show were a part of their life. The strange part to me was that they didn’t feel like they were ready for a “real relationship.” They were not ready to make the commitment to another person the same way they were committed to this show.

You Are Not Exempt

While we may read this and think that would never be us, many times it already is and we can’t see it. For many men it can be Sportscenter, hunting, fishing, etc.. And for women it can be anything from shopping to talking with friends. To make sure I include everyone, all of us spend too much time invested into our smartphones and social media and not enough time invested into our marriages and relationships.

Luke 6:42 [Full Chapter]

How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

All of the aspects of our lives are great when they are in balance. We continue to date our spouses because we need balance. We need time away with our spouses. Shared experiences, and living life are better than reading about it on Facebook or Instagram.
